Boat & Yacht Building & Repair

My name is George Bradbury and I am a retired boat builder. I am beginning my third year as the shop teacher for boat and yacht building. For six years prior to RBMA, I was the shop teacher in the maritime program at Palm Beach Lakes High School.

My students are involved in learning ship and tool safety, how to use and maintain hand and power tools, and beginning to build a wood boat project. Returning students continue with their projects, which include prepping and finishing skills, adding a new transom to a center console boat, and installing a deck and a layer of fiberglass to a kayak. All students learn a valuable lesson of time and material management.

I am actively involved in the school's Underwater Robotics Club, which designs, builds and competes with a Remote Operated Vehicle (ROV). Former club members have competed and outperformed not only other high schools, but also colleges including the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). The 2006 club team had victories in the International Engineering Category, as well as the Biggest Bang for the Buck Category and the Advanced Class Category.

I am also heavily involved in the school's SCUBA club, which meets on a regular basis. The club has a large student participation level and a very active dive schedule. Most of the students have earned, or are working on earning, the status of PADI Open Water Diver.

I feel confident that young people appreciate my patience, kind nature and subtle sense of humor.
