My name is Wilso Charles and I am a mathematics instructor at Riviera Beach Maritime Academy. I graduated from Florida Atlantic University with a Bachelors of Science degree in Computer Science and a minor in mathematics. Prior to teaching, I was a software developer with a company in Boca Raton creating speech recognition software for companies like Home Depot, Office Depot, Domino's Pizza, and Pizza Hut. I was responsible for writing software in languages such as C++ and used different scripts to test the software.
I am currently teaching Algebra II, Pre-Calculus, and Intensive Mathematics. I also teach Computing for College & Careers, a business technology course that teaches students the basics of information systems required for today's business environments. I love teaching my students how to think in terms of real world situations when solving mathematical problems. In my classes students learn real world applications such as calculating amortizations of a mortgage and interest on a car loan. They learn how a bridge such as the San Francisco Bridge is constructed using mathematical calculations. In calculus, the students are introduced to physics principles where they learn how a pendulum is used to calculate the rotational method and how these calculations are used to create pendulum rides at an amusement park.
