Hello, I’m Ms. Waterman and I am starting my second year of teacher at RBMA. My main focus is on teaching reading skills to students who are having difficulty. My undergraduate degree is in Psychology with a minor in Early Childhood Education. I obtained this degree from Marymount Manhattan College. My graduate degree in Remedial Reading was obtained from Teachers College-Columbia University in New York City. I worked for several years in New York and Rockland County before moving to Florida six years ago. Since living here I have worked in both middle and high school settings before coming to RBMA. I am now in the last year (hopefully) of a doctoral program at Walden University in Teacher Leadership.

Since I have begun teaching in Florida I have made one of the focuses of my classes Veteran’s affairs. Each year my students write anonymous letters to Veterans thanking them for their service to this country. It warms my heart each Memorial Day to hand out these letters and see the reaction of the Veterans who really believe that our youth have forgotten them. One student who came to hand out letters with me was awarded a scholarship from the Ladies Auxiliary group in Royal Palm Beach. This project is not done for a reward, but sometimes it works out that way!

Since I was born and raised in Jamaica I have a special love of the sea. Through teaching at RBMA I have learned so much about marine life, fishing, and conservation efforts for the ocean and the animals that share its beauty and resources with us. I look forward to my second year at RBMA.
